Improve I-70 studies began in 2002. Each study has its own process and timeline, but all are expected to be complete in early 2005. The studies will result in all the necessary documentation needed to proceed to the next steps: detailed design and construction.

Currently no funding is allocated for design or construction. Therefore, the timeframe for long-range improvements is unknown.

An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will be prepared for Section 7. An EIS addresses potential impacts that corridor improvements could have on an environment, as well as impacts of alternative actions and ways to mitigate or reduce those impacts. The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) specifies when an Environmental Impact Statement must be prepared.
